The exhibition, entitled “Fabricated Truth,” comprises two sections in which Gamburd’s drawings of cultural icons feature along with her ongoing treatment of cherubs. In animated short films and the materials that went into their making, she simulates the destruction and disposal of many of the world’s cultural symbols which she then replaces with cherubs, though she infuses this brazen act with her characteristic humor.
The other section of the exhibition relates to one of the seminal events in Christian theology and practice — the Last Supper. Over the ages Leonardo da Vinci’s famous rendering of this scene has been a reference point for countless works of art. Gamburd worked on her drawing for many months, during which she meticulously examined every detail and perfected her designs, as Leonardo did in his day.
